Project Objectives

A client of ours had a sales lead on a 60m private superyacht that travels throughout the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

  • Inspect Physical IT equipment onboard including racks, switches, and access points.

  • Identify bottlenecks in the network as LEO Satellite internet works well when directly connected to modem, but poor results when used through the internal network

  • Identify issues with Wi-Fi throughout the vessel

  • Create an upgrade proposal and a plan based on the finding of the survey

  • Identify pitfalls during the proposal stage and create a backout plan if necessary

  • Complete the job as outlined in the planning stage

Project Results

  • Due to the “turnkey” nature of the project, the project was delivered on time, working and within budget.

  • On-site testing confirms there are improvements to both the internet speeds, Wi-Fi footprint and handover when roaming between access points when using low-latency/low-jitter dependant services, e.g. WhatsApp/Facetime calls.

  • Accuracy of the documentation proved vital, both for on-going support from the client’s NOC as well as for the vessel when the engineering crew rotated in new crew, providing an easy handover of the more experienced, leaving crew members.
